Imagine, if you will, my surprise at receiving a lovely email last week from a fellow blogger telling me that she had nominated me for an award in the highly acclaimed MADS Blog Awards (and to answer the question that you are no doubt thinking, which Mr kindly said out loud, no, it’s not because, I am mad… at least I don’t think so…)
I don’t think of myself as a real blogger – there are certainly a great many more prolific and talented bloggers, in every field, than me. Usually I don’t even think anyone is reading the drivel that pours from my fingertips and ends up on the screen in front of me. So it was a lovely treat to find that not only does someone (and not even anyone I know personally) actually read my witterings, but consider them worthy of a nomination (Best Thrifty Blog, since you asked). Apparently it was the Budget Bathroom Makeover which caught her eye, which was very kind indeed.
I do like to think of myself as thrifty, although some may prefer to consider me as tight as the proverbial duck. I take pride (and actually some pleasure) from my frugality, and avoid throwing things out if at all possible. I enjoy creating something from nothing – be it a three course dinner for under £3, a Valentine’s sofa-arm-beer-table for Mr, made from bits of (granted, rather nice) wood, which were left over from our kitchen when we had it fitted last year, or a beautiful sideboard, upcycled from a rather battered garage storage unit which we inherited when we moved into our last house. I prefer to spend time rather than money, and find the end result is usually all the better for the personal touch.
When I am shopping (I do enjoy that too), I am happy to spend a bit of time searching out the best prices, using My Supermarket for groceries, and Top Cashback* to get money back on the things I buy. I have recently discovered that if you buy things in store, you can get cashback on those too, by snapping your receipt and uploading it – this had me in a state of great excitement the first time, I’ll admit. And I have to admit a bit of a soft spot for that nice Money Saving Expert, Mr Lewis… okay, okay, I think he rocks. But you get my drift.
Anyway, I’d like to say a big thank you to my nominator and, of course, if anyone else would like to put me forward for Best Thrifty Blog, that would be very lovely too.
