You could be forgiven for thinking that Spring had well and truly sprung last week. We had glorious blue skies, a bit of warmth in the sun and even a day of no rain! There’s something about Spring that just makes everyone that little bit cheerier – amazing what a break from the grey, drizzly murk can do.
I have to say, I do love Spring. The changing of the seasons is a great time to stand back, take stock and plan for the coming months, and whilst I love the crunch of leaves that signals Autumn, the frosty chill which heralds the start of Winter and, naturally, the peeling off of layers that Summer provokes, Spring is the one that fills me with hope and optimism. I think I might be part grizzly bear, and should just hibernate once Winter takes hold, but the emergence of crocuses awakens me and brings about a change in my outlook. It’s a time when I look forward to getting out of bed; to digging the garden and planting veggies to look forward to later in the year; to stomping up some of the hills we are lucky enough to live near; even to a good old Spring Clean!
So what am I looking forward to this year?
Relaxing and being a better mum (and wife). I’m training myself to relax at the moment – as a total control freak, I find it hard to stand back and, in particular, let the children make their own mistakes. I want to do the best for them, and am coming to realise that sometimes the best for them isn’t necessarily the right thing – they need to do the wrong thing and learn from it. It’s only taken me nine years to find this out, but hopefully it won’t take me another nine to actually do it.
Finding out more about my family history. I have been looking into my family tree for a while now, and I’m looking forward to continuing that and hopefully getting further back. I have quite an unusual name in my history, which crops up a bit in quite well-to-do circles, and I would love to track my descendants back and make some interesting discoveries (unlikely, but you never know).
Improving my crafting ability. I am loving crochet at the moment, and have some grand plans for little bits and bobs, which I am looking forward to making time to complete. I also really want to remove a few of the pearls from my wedding dress to make into a bracelet, but I am very nervous of that in case I ruin my dress. I must just bite the bullet – the result will be worth it, I am sure.
What about you? What are you looking forward to this season? Do you find Spring inspiring, or do you favour another season? I’d love to know…
